Project/Product Description

Cost of the project : 200 K
Completion date: Summer 2022
Our mission was to create an inspiring workspace of 400 m2 for Edyn that embodied their ethos : unique, vibrant, and distinctive that nourish and enliven the soul while connect human together. In this spirit we decided to opt for bold colours, natural materials and statement furniture that creates a dynamic space sequence within one big open space. This big open plan space is divided in different zones to allow flexible modes of working : co-working, hot desking, traditional meeting rooms and a lounge for more casual meetings. The team needed to feel this space as a second home to work as much as enjoying the company of each other. We curated an eclectic set of furniture by mixing vintage pieces with contemporary designers elements, seeking to bring a domestic feel to a working environment.

Materials Used

We used Bolon on the floor, creating interesting shapes and colour patterns while being mindful on the ESG side.
Fabrics from innovative brand such as Kvadrat on chairs and upholstery that focus their strategy on producing fabrics that are chemical free and respectful of their production process. We also used the UK based brand Yarn collective that are mindful of their production process and produce in British mills.
All desks and meeting tables are made of wood veneer, because we think that the interaction with the human is sensorial and experimental and that we should be surrounded by natural material more often.

Sustainability

ESG was designed at the early stage of the concept : we created a retro pattern with metallic colours in a material called Bolon made partly with recycled vinyl and textile offcuts. A product that is non fossile and careful on the carbon print. Furniture were sourced from our partners who care about sustainability: Carl Hansen, Kvadrat, Muuto. We had good care to invest into natural, durable and quality materials that will last : wood, natural stone, terracotta planters, fabric protected with non chemical treatments. Our procurement agent and partner Doods and Shute played also a key role in helping us source environmental friendly options and accommodating vintage and second hand furniture choices, by offsetting the carbon on this project.

Issues Faced

The integration of this flooring was not an easy task as we needed a material that was also softening the noise in the overall open space. But the Bolon floor helped us making this space feeling warm and welcoming, while going away from the classical carpet option. we had also a big challenge in that space as it was initially lacking of natural light, we needed to have a material that had a bit of reflection in it to mitigate the feeling of being in a dark space

Vintage is another issue, as the lifespan of some items can be discussable, we tried to give a second life to many items we purchased , sometimes by making the decision to reupholster them. The location of these items was another point as we wanted to stay as local as we could. FF&E wise it was important that we stayed Europe focused as we have more transparency on the production processes, so we mainly bought items from Danemark, France , Uk. We purchased a big part of accesories vintage in the Uk, trying to reduce the transport associated to them. Where we could find locally in London we opted for that decision. All books were coming from local charities, also trying to participate to the local effort.
