Project/Product Description

Sarab is a versatile collection of tiles that offers the viewer a hypnotic visual effect as well as intrinsic functionality. Its geometry consists of a triangular prism in terracotta, presenting one of its sides enamelled or engobated, so that its appearance will be different depending on the viewer's point of view, and generating a very interesting gradual visual effect in color and geometry. Furthermore, the Sarab collection is not just a decorative element, since the porosity of terracotta gives this piece sound-absorbing properties that are essential for busy places and improving the acoustics of the rooms. On the other hand, the geometry of this piece will also cause shadows projected on its surface, so that in places where it is exposed to the sun it would also act as a thermal insulator. The cost per square meter of Sarab Collection is around £180. The Sarab collection has been completed in mid-2023.

Materials Used

For the manufacturing process of the pieces in the Sarab collection, we make the 3D element with natural terracotta clay fired in a traditional wood-fired oven, thus achieving a very warm colour with slight variations. With the base fired, one side is glazed or engobated with a brush. With great care we managed to keep half of the piece in the colour of the pure terracotta and the other half in a gloss or engobated coloured finish.

Sustainability

23kg CO2/m2

Issues Faced

The Sarab collection solves the following problems:

Aesthetics: Provides a distinctive aesthetic value in the room, resolving the visual monotony on the surfaces and generating a dynamic visual effect that involves the viewer, generating rhythm and visual dynamism according to the point of view of perception of the piece.

Acoustics: Its porous finish not only gives it a rustic, artisanal and cozy touch, but also makes it an optimal piece that acts as a sound-absorbing piece, reducing reverberations and improving the acoustics of the spaces.

Thermal insulation: Its geometry allows it to create shadows on surfaces exposed to the sun, generating a percentage of shadow on its own surface and reducing its exposure to the sun and therefore the heat generated.

Additional Comments

The Sarab collection is applicable for interiors and exteriors, and can be obtained in different colors and finishes, as well as enameled, engobated and even different types of clay.
